Students from seven of the Alhambra Unified School District schools, showed off their best stunts, tumbles and dances in the annual 2021 All-City Cheerleading Competition. Over 400 people attended the event on Saturday, November 6, at Alhambra Park. Fifteen teams competed for awards in three divisions, including a Team Spirit Award for the most enthusiastic team.
The Cheerleading program is run by the City of Alhambra’s Parks and Recreation Department. Students learn basic cheerleading skills including rhythm, choreography, showmanship and team cooperation.
Practices began in August and were held weekdays at the after-school sites. Cheerleading clinics were held on Saturday mornings at Granada Park. Under guidelines for Youth Sports from the L.A. County Health Department of health, participants-maintained safety protocols with weekly health surveys and Covid testing for coaches, and participants 12 and up. In addition to the cheerleading competition, there were exhibition performances from the Alhambra High School Cheerleading Team, the All-Female and All-Male Dance Teams.
