[ARCHIVED] Public Workshops To Be Held on Redistricting Process

Redistricting, the decennial process of redrawing district lines based on new Census numbers has begun in the City of Alhambra. City officials are asking the public to participate by attending a workshop, submitting a public comment form, or submitting their own draft map for consideration.

“Public involvement is critical in this process,” said Mayor Katherine Lee. “The goal of redistricting is to provide fair and effective representation for all. The public can help achieve that goal by actively participating in the redistricting process.”

The city will hold its first of five public workshops via Zoom beginning on Thursday, November 4th, at 6pm.

With an interest in accessibility and receiving as much public input as possible, the city will be providing live interpretation during the workshops in Spanish, Vietnamese, and Mandarin.

Additionally, an online mapping tool and public comment form are available through the City’s website.

A draft map will be presented in January 2022 at the conclusion of the public workshops. The public will then have an opportunity to comment before a final map is adopted in March 2022.

Census data reveals the City of Alhambra’s population now stands at 83,109.

For more information about the process, the public can email City Clerk Lauren Myles.
