Social Media Terms of Use

All Alhambra Police Department social media sites are subject to the California Public Records Act. Therefore, any content maintained in a social media format that is related to city business, including a list of subscribers, posted communication, and communications submitted for posting may be a public record subject to public disclosure. By posting or commenting on any social media platform used by the Alhambra Police Department, you participate by your own choice, taking personal responsibility for your comments, your username, and any information you provide therein. You further agree to the following terms of use:

Purpose

The Alhambra Police Department (the Department) maintains a social media program for the purpose of engaging and interacting with our community on matters of public interest concerning the Department’s programs, activities, news stories, and photos/videos. In allowing comments on a social media account, the Department intends to create a limited public forum for the purposes above and to allow members of the public to provide feedback regarding the topics posted by the Department.

Moderation of Content

The Department reserves the right to restrict or remove any content that is deemed in violation of this policy or any applicable law as it applies to comments.

By its nature, social media sites allow for a participatory, interactive experience, with members of these sites being able to comment or respond to information posted on the Department’s behalf. The Alhambra Police Department is committed to serving our community in a civil and unbiased manner.

Comments containing any of the following inappropriate forms of content shall not be permitted on any Alhambra Police Department social media sites and are subject to removal and/or restriction:

  • Comments not related to the original topic, including random or unintelligible comments.
  • Profane, obscene, violent, sexual, or pornographic content and/or language.
  • Content that promotes, fosters, or perpetuates discrimination based on race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, national origin, status with regard to public assistance, physical or mental disability, or sexual orientation.
  • Libelous, defamatory, or personal attacks or comments.
  • Threats of violence or illegal activity to any person or organization.
  • Comments infringing on copyrighted or trademarked material.
  • Solicitations of commerce, including but not limited to advertising of any business or product for sale.
  • Comments in support of, or in opposition to, any political candidate, campaign, ballot measure, or proposition.
  • Encouragement of illegal activity.
  • Information that may tend to compromise the safety or security of the public or public systems.
  • Information revealing private data of any person such as email addresses, residential addresses, credit card information, medical information, financial information, social security numbers, etc.
  • Harassment or content that constitutes and/or facilitates stalking.
  • Comments containing specific or imminent threats.
  • Links leading to spam or any of the above inappropriate forms of content.
  • Photos or videos posted by any person other than an employee of the Alhambra Police Department who has been authorized to post photos or videos on behalf of the Department.   

Emergency or Non-Emergency Requests for Police Assistance

The posting of requests for police assistance, regardless if it is of an emergency or non-emergency nature, is discouraged and will not guarantee a response by the Alhambra Police Department or any emergency service provider. In case of an emergency, or if police assistance is needed, please dial 911. If you wish to report a crime, or information relevant to a crime, please call our non-emergency dispatch line at (626) 570-5151. You may remain anonymous.

Please keep in mind that in the event you post information related to a crime, you may be placing yourself in a position of becoming a witness and subject to being subpoenaed into court.

Endorsements

“Friending” or “Liking” the Alhambra Police Department, or an officer or employee of the Alhambra Police Department, does not indicate an endorsement of that person’s actions or comments.

Comments made by individuals who are not employees of the Alhambra Police Department are the expressed opinions of those individuals, and the availability of these comments on the Department’s social media sites does not imply any endorsement of nor agreement to by the Department, nor do these comments necessarily reflect the opinions or policies of the Department.

Denial of Access 

The Alhambra Police Department reserves the right to deny access to any Alhambra Police Department social media site/website to any individual who violates the Department’s social media terms of use without prior notice, at any time.
