NOTICE TO ALL RESIDENTS ABOUT SMOKE TESTING OF SEWERS
The City of Alhambra has contracted National Plant Services (NPS) to conduct smoke tests within your neighborhood as part of an on-going program to detect leaks within the sewer system. An important task of the testing will be to locate breaks and defects in the sewer system.
Under normal circumstances, the smoke that will be generated to conduct these tests should not enter your house if the plumbing is working properly. You will see smoke coming from the vents of the roof of your home, which is normal. In most cases, entrance of smoke into a dwelling is through fixtures that are not routinely used; therefore, we request that you run water for a minute or two at all your fixtures to ensure that all traps are full of water.
If smoke does enter your house, you should report it immediately to the crews conducting the tests in your neighborhood who will do a quick inspection of your residence to locate the problem area in your plumbing. Opening of doors and windows should quickly dissipate any smoke. If you are not home and discover smoke when you return, simply open a few windows to vent the area.
The smoke that is being used is made specifically for this application and is therefore, non-toxic and non-staining. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience this may cause and our thanks for your assistance. If you should have any questions regarding these tests, please feel free to contact National Plant Services at 562-896-1439.
Please be aware that we cannot confirm the exact date or time of when NPS crews will be in your area. Inspections will be performed between 8am to 4:30pm. Work is anticipated to startJuly 27, 2021 and be completed within 12 to 15 days for all of Zone 18.
IMPORTANT! If there is any individual in your home or business who has respiratory problems or is immobile, please notify Dallas Dahl - 626-570-3280.
This public notice is available in Chinese, Spanish and Vietnamese. It was distributed to the streets that will receive the smoke testing first. The dates will change below as NPS crews continue working on other streets in Zone 18. Testing for all of Zone 18 is expected to be completed within 12 to 15 days from July 27.
