The Alhambra Police Department is now accepting applications to its 2017 Citizens Police Academy. The Citizens Police Academy is an eight-week course designed to introduce the principals and practices of a modern day municipal law enforcement agency to members of the community. Academy sessions, such as APD History, Patrol Operations, Homeless Outreach and Engagement Policing, Officer Safety, Narcotics, and others, are taught by veteran law enforcement officers. Participants will have a class of Self-Defense Training and be invited to “ride-a-long” with a patrol officer on duty. Classes will be held on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Alhambra Police Department between August 9, 2017, and September 27, 2017.
Many past Academy participants have noted their special enjoyment of the interactive aspects of the course; participating in Officer Safety Scenario Exercises (where participants have the opportunity to “walk in the shoes” of police officers) and in the “ride-along” experience (actually riding on patrol, throughout the community, with an officer on duty).
Other participant/graduates have used their academy experience to kick-off their participation in the “Alhambra Citizens on Patrol” program, during which they assist the Alhambra Police Department in many ways, including support at community events and celebrations.
Don’t miss this opportunity to enhance your community awareness and be a part of the Alhambra Police Department’s Citizens Police Academy beginning on Wednesday, August 9, 2017. Deadline to submit the application is July 7, 2017.
Alhambra residents and business persons interested in attending the Alhambra Citizens Police Academy must be at least 18 years of age and submit an application to the Alhambra Police Department. Applicants with outstanding warrants, pending criminal court cases, a serious misdemeanor conviction, or any felony conviction, will not be invited to participate in the academy. For more information and an application, contact the Crime Prevention Office (626) 570-5177 or jcuchilla@alhambrapd.org
