Public Safety Assistant

Public safety assistants serve as ambassadors to the community by acting as the eyes and ears of the city ensuring safety, cleanliness and orderliness for the benefit of our citizens and visitors to the parks and downtown business district.


  • The Alhambra Police Department Public Safety Assistant program, an additional component of the Alhambra Police Reserves and Citizens on Patrol programs, uses the placement of trained, high-visibility uniformed volunteers to help ensure a safe and positive experience for park users and the community in general.
  • Public Safety Assistant are afforded a variety of means to patrol the parks and downtown, including foot patrols, bicycle and vehicle patrols, and Electronic Standup Vehicles (T3’s).
  • Public Safety Assistants help educate the public about city ordinances and policies related to park and facility use; enforce violations of the Alhambra Municipal Code (AMC) as deemed appropriate; address specific concerns brought forward by the community; and assist the City and Police Department at sponsored events in the form of traffic control, community outreach programs, etc.
  • Public Safety Assistants work with Community Services staff to identify common complaints and to address them accordingly. Participants in the Public Safety Assistant program receive both classroom and field training, including instruction on municipal codes, first aid and CPR, customer service and administrative policies, to name a few.
  • The program offers a great way to make a difference and feel connected to the community, while learning new skills and gaining leadership experience.
