Volunteers from the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, Bank of America, City of Alhambra, and the community will join KaBOOM! on Friday, January 26 to transform an empty site into a state-of-the-art playground in just six hours at Alhambra Park. The new playground will help make play the easy choice for kids and families in Alhambra.

“The Dodgers are thrilled to join KaBOOM!, the City of Alhambra, the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, and Bank of America in transforming this empty space into a Dodger blue play place,” said Dodger Vice President of External Affairs & Community Relations Naomi Rodriguez. “It’s amazing to see the impact we can have in just a single day by uniting our players and valued partners, and hope that this state-of-the-art playground will be home to many happy memories for the children in our community for years to come.”

“Free and unstructured play is an important part of developing happy and healthy kids,” said Jeff Maloney, Vice Mayor for the City of Alhambra. “We are proud to have a wide range of parks and open spaces in Alhambra, and we greatly appreciate the generosity of the Dodgers and KaBOOM! in helping to bring this new playground to one of our most historic and best-loved parks.”

This playground is part of a broader effort led by the KaBOOM!, the Dodgers and its partners to ensure communities have great PLAYces for kids and families and will be the first build by the Dodgers. Through this partnership, KaBOOM!, the Dodgers, and its partners are creating an oasis where kids feel valued and loved, and where their potential is supported, nurtured and celebrated.

“Having strong, vibrant neighborhoods drives economic sustainability for the entire community,” said Raul Anaya, Los Angeles market president, Bank of America. “We’re glad to have over 60 local Bank of America employees volunteer with the Dodgers and KaBOOM! to create a place where Alhambra children and families can gather and be proud.”

“We are proud to partner with the Dodgers, KaBOOM!, Bank of America, and the City of Alhambra in this build, as part of our commitment to creating safe places for youth to be active, said Nichol Whiteman, Executive Director, Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation “We hope it will continue to foster play and healthy habits for the children of this neighborhood.”

As with all KaBOOM! play spaces, the playground at Alhambra Park will be ADA-accessible and feature play equipment such as a geo dome climber and a “cozy cove,” a pod-shaped element developed for children with autism to seek a quiet spot when play becomes overwhelming.

“The City believes in investing in the health and well-being of children of all ages and abilities by offering year-around sports and activities through our Community Services Department,” said Jessica Binnquist, City Manager, City of Alhambra. “We are thankful that the Dodgers picked us in supporting our mission of fostering active youth and we are excited that the playground equipment at Alhambra Park will don the proud Dodgers colors of blue and white.”

Thanks to the support of KaBOOM!, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation, Bank of America, and over 200 community volunteers, this project will provide more than 1,500 kids in Alhambra with a great, safe place to play.
