Phelps has served the Alhambra Fire Department for 35 years moving up from the ranks of Firefighter, Fire Engineer, Hazardous Materials Captain, Fire Captain, Battalion Chief and Assistant Chief. In December 2015, Phelps took a brief retirement before returning back in May as the City’s Interim Fire Chief following the departure of former Alhambra Fire Chief Bill Walker.
“I have the utmost appreciation for the dedication and professionalism for the men and women of the Alhambra Fire Department who serve the citizens of Alhambra - it’s truly an honor,” says Phelps.
Phelps holds Associate Degree in Fire Science from Pasadena City College and a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from the University of La Verne. Phelps has served on a myriad of community, business and professional organizations at local, state and federal levels.
Alhambra City Manager, Mark Yokoyama, states, “during the interim, Chief Phelps has proven to be an asset to the City and extremely effective in working with staff and the community. His leadership and teamwork abilities will continue to elevate our City.”
Phelps will provide leadership to 69 uniformed personnel including fire prevention, communications, administrative staff and a 15 million dollar budget as the City’s Fire Chief. Phelps will assume his role as the City of Alhambra’s Fire Chief on June 16, 2016.
