On Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at approximately 9:43 am, Alhambra Police received a call of a vehicle versus pedestrian traffic accident at the intersection of Main and Cedar Streets in Alhambra.
Responding officers and Alhambra Fire Department Paramedics treated the unidentified pedestrian at the scene and she was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena. The woman was pronounced dead several minutes later by hospital staff. The driver of the striking vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the pedestrian was walking northbound across Main Street when she was hit in the crosswalk by a van traveling westbound. Investigators are still on scene gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses. The cause of the accident is still being investigated but driver intoxication does not appear to be a factor. Westbound Main St. will be closed at the intersection of Cedar St. while the investigation is underway.
Alhambra Police Department investigators will be working with the LA County Coroner’s Office to positively identify the pedestrian. The LA County Coroner will release her identity once it is confirmed.
