Rain or Shine!

Thinking of replacing an old toilet in your house with a more efficient water-saving model? Then mark your calendar for the Free Low-Flush, Drive-Through Toilet Exchange.

Each year the San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District and the cities of Alhambra and Monterey Park join together for their spring toilet exchange event. Residents must install their new water efficient toilet within two weeks—and return with their old toilet on April 26 (same location as noted above). Students of Mark Keppel High School and Alhambra High School athletic teams will load/unload the toilets from your vehicle on April 12 and April 26. In return, water agencies will donate $15 for every toilet that is returned on April 26 to the students’ school athletic program.

To participate, residents must live in a single family home condo, duplex, triplex, townhome or mobile home and pay their water bill to the City of Alhambra or Monterey Park. Residents who live in a condo, duplex, triplex, townhome or mobile home are also eligible, but need to bring along a home owners association bill if applicable. All residents need to bring along their City of Alhambra or Monterey Park water bill, a current driver's license or military ID. Owners of apartment complexes need to call (800) 366-6995 for more details.  Quantities are limited and are distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.

When you arrive on April 12th, you will enter the Mark Keppel High School Parking Lot (watch for entrance sign). This is a drive-through event (everyone will stay in their cars). An application form will be given to you at that time for you to fill out. After the paperwork has been processed, your free toilet (along with wax ring) will be loaded into your car or truck.  On April 26th, you will follow the same procedure, but bring back your old toilet.

For more information about the program, call ConserVision at (800) 366-6995, or visit www.waterprograms.com. This program is sponsored by the San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District with the cities of Alhambra and Monterey Park.
