Police Department - Community Programs
The Police Explorer program enables young men and women, ages 14 to 20, to determine if a career in law enforcement may be in their future.

  Community Programs

The Alhambra Police Department is pleased to offer a variety of programs to promote community safety and enhance the role of the department in the community. These include:

Police Explorer Program provides a means by which young men and women (between the ages of 14 and 20) may determine, through actual experience and training, if they would like to pursue a career in law enforcement. Somewhat akin to the Adult Citizen Police Academy, teens learn through lecture and practical experience about the day-to-day operations of the Alhambra Police Department, and the skills and education necessary to be a law enforcement officer. After completing the Police Explorer "Academy," Explorers may continue their relationship with the Alhambra Police Department by performing non-hazardous duties around the police station, and participating in ride-alongs with a police officer on a regular tour of duty. If you think you (or a friend or acquaintance) might be interested in the Police Explorer program, call Alhambra Police Sergeant Wiese at (626) 570-5176, for more information and a Police Explorer application form.

Police Station Tours are offered tours to schools, youth organizations and other community groups. If you would like to arrange a police station tour for your group, please contact the Crime Prevention Office at (626) 570-5177.

Safe Kids and Company is a comprehensive child-safety education program targeting children five to thirteen years of age. The goal of the program is to teach children to recognize and avoid dangerous situations, and to respond appropriately to signs of danger. The model includes several different children's safety curriculums that can be taught in individual modules or as a complete and comprehensive children's safety course. The curriculum modules include Kids and Company - child abduction and molestation prevention; Safe Moves; First Aid/CPR; D.A.R.E. - Drug Abuse Resistance Education; Baby Sitting Safety; Conflict Resolution, and Gun Safety. For additional information about the Safe Kids program, contact Sharon Williams at (626) 570-5177.

Safe Moves is a program made possible through a generous donation by the Alhambra Exchange Club, and is a unique teaching tool using props to train young children about traffic safety in a realistic setting. Props include child-sized buildings, traffic signals, and vehicles. Children traveling through Safe Moves City learn safe behaviors and how to avoid dangerous traffic hazards. For additional information about the Safe Moves program, contact Sharon Williams at (626) 570-5177.

Speaker's Bureau offers a variety of law enforcement and crime prevention topics to civic, professional, educational and other community groups. Speeches and presentations are made by appointment by calling (626) 570-5177.
