Crowd gathers to see the Alhambra Police Department's new mobile "Mutual Aid Command Center."

Alhambra Celebrates "Night Out Against Crime"

“Night Out Against Crime” is
a national celebration of law
enforcement and crime
prevention.  The 2007 night
in Alhambra, held during
August and sponsored by
the Target Corporation,
“targeted” auto burglary and
auto theft and enjoyed a major
turnout of citizens interested in
playing an active role in
making our city a safer place
to live and work.

Alhambra Police Officers from all bureaus – bicycle patrol, D.A.R.E.,
K-9, patrol, detectives, community oriented-policing, and traffic – participated in the event, sharing their crime prevention expertise with the community.

Alhambra
Police Chief
Jim Hudson reported to those in attendance that “crime in Alhambra has been reduced in the past year as the result of a comprehensive effort by the department.”

A major attraction at Night Out Against Crime was Alhambra’s new mobile mutual aid command center (profiled in last month’s Around Alhambra), a massive vehicle, funded by the federal Department of Homeland Security, and designed to serve as an “on site” command and communications center during major emergencies and disasters within Alhambra and other cooperating cities of Los Angeles County’s “Region C.”

Raffles throughout the evening provided attendees gift cards from local sponsoring merchants, and, in keeping with this year’s theme, anti-vehicle theft steering wheel locking devices.

Special thanks are extended to the concerned citizens who made this year’s Night Out Against Crime such a success, and to local sponsors and merchants, including the Target Corporation, Regal Entertainment Group, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Johnny Rockets, Panda Express, and Starbucks Coffee Company.
