Free hearing screenings are offered each month on the first Tuesday of the month from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Provided by First American Hearing Aid Center. Appointments are required. Free blood pressure screenings are held every Monday at 10 a.m.





 
 

Joslyn Adult Center - Where Seniors have Fun!

Joslyn Adult Center, 210 North Chapel Avenue, is where everything "senior" happens in Alhambra--hot lunches every weekday, seminars to enhance your health and pocketbook, clubs, dance groups, classes, senior outings, and much more. If you're not visiting Joslyn  regularly (like every day!), you're definitely missing out on some of the fun.

February 2010 

  • Thursday, February 18 - "Managing Trusts Pre & Post-Death" Seminar - 7 p.m.-8 p.m. Part of a serires  seminars on "Managing Elder Care, Trusts &  Medi-Cal" by Elder law Attorney Carlos A. Arcos. Free, but please call (626) 570-5056, weekdays, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., to reserve your seat.
     
  • Monday, February 22 - "Stroke Screening - Ultrasound of the Carotid Artery" - 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Provided by MD Health Care Plan. For additional information/reservations, call (626) 570-5056, weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
       
  • Wednesday, February 24 - San Manuel Casino Senior Outing - 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. There will be plenty of time to check out the slots, play a bit of poker, take your chance at 21, and have lunch (on your own).  Join the Serrano Club and receive $30 of free play with your Serrano Club card (click here to apply, at least 24 hours in advance, and your card will be available on arrival.  Bring ID – state ID, Driver’s License, Military ID, or passport).   • Wednesday, March 24 - Plaza Square in Old Town Orange Senior Outing - 9 a.m.-4 p.m. If you like shopping at antique stores, eclectic gift shops and galleries, and eating (on your own) at a quaint eatery, don't miss this outing - there are over 100 shops and restaurants to peak your interest. Fee: $15. Registration for this outing took place in February, so interested participants should call (626) 570-5056 to determine if space is still available.
     
  • Friday, March 26 - "Medicare Supplement" Seminar - 10 a.m. Presented by Secure Horizons. Advance registration is required by calling (626) 570-5056, weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
     
  • Monday, March 29 - "Dawn's Light: The Journey of Gordon Hirabaysi" - 1 p.m. Southern California Edison will sponsor this play by Jeanne Sakata and performed by the East West Players Theater. Advance registration is required by calling (626) 570-5056, weekdays from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.
     
  • Monday, March 29 - Last Day to Register to Participate in the "Spring Craft" Event being held on Monday, April 5. Fee: $2.
     

April 2010

  • April 6 - Register for Oxnard Heritage Square Senior Outing on Wednesday, May 26
     
  • April 13 - Orange Empire Train Tour & Lunch Senior Outing - 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.  Outing will include rides on two trolleys and one train AND a tour of the museum and grounds. Bring your own picnic lunch, or, for $6 (cash) you can enjoy a sandwich from Subway with chips, a cookie and a drink. Fee: $15. For additional information, call (626) 570-5056.

May 2010

  • May 4 - Register for Huntington Beach Senior Outing on Friday, June 11
     
  • May 26 - Oxnard Heritage Square Senior Outing (Register on April 6). The tour in the century-old square, led by a period-dressed guide, includes 11 homes, a church, a water tower, pump house and storehouse. Following the tour there is time to explore downtown Oxnard and have lunch (on your own). Fee: $15.

June 2010

  • June 11 - Huntington Beach Senior Outing (Register on May 4)
     
  • June 23 -Santa Monica Beach Senior Outing (Register on May 4)

 

Seminars: Registration is required for all listed educational health seminars and clinics. Seminars and clinics are conducted free of charge unless stated otherwise and are held at the Joslyn Center. For more information, call (626) 570-5056, during weekday business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
