 Summer Jubilee 2009 Postponement

Over its 10-year history, the Alhambra Summer Jubilee has become one of the biggest draws to the City – bringing people from all over the Southland to Alhambra. It is an award-winning program that already has people inquiring about the next event and schedule of entertainers.

Unfortunately, in light of the current economic situation, the City has determined that it is necessary to suspend the Summer Jubilee until the summer of 2010. Like virtually every other city in the state, Alhambra has not been immune from the current economic slowdown. The loss of revenue, jobs and businesses has temporarily impacted our ability to fund this program. And while Alhambra is not in the dire straits that many cities are finding themselves, the City has implemented a comprehensive yet frugal budget for the 2009-2010 fiscal year, beginning July 1. To the community’s good fortune, no vital services or programs have been cut in the process.

Because we realized there would be strong disappointment at hearing this news, the City carefully evaluated all possible options to keep the event in place. We also recognize that many families are struggling financially and looking for entertainment options and wholesome types of fun to relieve the stress inherent in these difficult times. With many opportunities for family enjoyment available in our downtown and other areas of the City, residents are encouraged to support our local businesses.

In addition, the City would like to show its appreciation to everyone who has come out to our previous Summer Jubilee events. The present economic situation will improve eventually, and we will begin our work to prepare for another memorable Summer Jubilee in 2010. We’ll look forward to seeing you there!
