SUMMER/FALL 2010 LEISURE ACTIVITIES GUIDE

Register now for FALL 2010 classes starting on September 27, 2010.
To register, complete the form on the back of the Leisure Services Guide, then:

    your information with Visa or MasterCard in hand, (or)
  • Bring your form and payment to the Alhambra Park
    Office, 500 N. Palm Ave., Alhambra
    (Weekdays, 8 a.m.-5 p.m., (or)
  • Mail your form & payment (no cash) to:

  • Drop off your form and payment in the
    night deposit slot at the First Street entrance to

     NEW LEISURE CLASSES
 
Registration is now open for FALL classes and activities printed in the SUMMER/FALL 2010 LEISURE ACTIVITIES GUIDE. New classes that have been added to the Leisure Class mix include:

Parent/Child classes

  • Fun With Toddlers (child must be 1 year old by Dec. 3)
  • Two Too Much (child must be 2 years old by Dec. 3)
  • Kinder-Ready Fours (child must be 4 years old by Dec. 3)
  • Ages & Stages, a mixed-age class (from 0 to 4-1/2) that uses fun activities, music, and social play to nurture the bond between parent and child.

Enrichment” classes

  • Arts & Crafts     
  • Sculpting Fun
  • Intro to Typing, Word and Powerpoint

     ADULT BASKETBALL FALL LEAGUE
 
Registration began Monday, August 2 for the Adult Basketball Fall League.  Fall league play begins on Thursday, September 9. Registration is taken on a first-come, first-served basis, and continues for this year-round program with games played at the Almansor Park gymnasium. Participants must be 18 years of age or older, or have graduated from high school. No height limit "C" league games will be placed on Thursdays and 6-ft 2-in and under height limit league games will be played on Saturdays. Individual awards will be presented for 1st and 2nd place finishers.  For more infromation, call 626-570-5081.

     YOUTH WINTER BASEBALL LEAGUE
 
Applications for volunteer coaches started Friday, August 6 for the Youth Winter Baseball League (for boys and girls, ages 7 to 16). Practice began August 16. League play begins on September 18. For more information, call 626-570-5081.

 
   

 CHEERLEADING AND FLAG FOOTBALL YOUTH PROGRAM
 
On Tuesday, September 21, a MANDATORY Parents Meeting is scheduled at the Almansor Park Activity Room for parents of children participating in the Cheerleading and Flag Football Youth Sports programs.

The Cheerleading Parents Meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Cheerleading participants will learn basic cheerleading skills, including rhythm, music, choreography, showmanshi and team cooperation. The $30 fee includes a t-shirt, and there may be additional uniform costs.

The Flag Football Parents Meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. This program emphasizes teamwork and sportsmanship. Players will learn football techniques, such as passing, blocking and catching. Registration begins on Thursday, September 9 and continues through Friday, October 8. Games will be played at Almansor Park. Practices for both programs will take place weekdays, immediately after school, at each of the 9 elementary school campuses in Alhambra.

 ADULT & YOUTH GOLF INSTRUCTION

  • Adult Golf - features new classes every month.
     
  • Junior Golf - is offered to youth 7 to 17 years of age for a
    total of 4 sessions per four-week period. Two sessions 
    are available: Wednesday at 3:30-4:30 p.m. or

  • Saturday, September 11 - LOBSTER FESTIVAL
    11 a.m.-6 p.m. Let your taste buds dance with the delights of delicious food at the annual Lobster Festival in Long Beach. Indulge in the rich taste of real Maine Lobsters while relaxing to live entertainment. Bring the family along to enjoy loads of fun rides, games, and so much more. Admission does not include a lobster meal. Fee: $20. 
     
  • Sunday, October 17 - OKTOBERFEST - 12 p.m.-7 p.m. This will be a day full of good food and lots of fun for the whole family. In the Old World Village at Huntington Beach, kids can jump in the bouncers, play carnival games and watch the Dachshund races. Enjoy the pulsating beat of the Oom-Pa-Pah bands directly from Germany while you visit the many shops and restaurants available. Price does not include cost of food. Fee: $15.
     
  • Saturday, November 13 - DISCOVERY SCIENCE CENTER & IRVINE SPECTRUM - 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Come explore Orange County's wonderful Science Center which is filled with many hands-on and interactive exhibits for children of all ages. Travel through the many different themed areas such as Dynamic Earth, Quake Zone, Techno Arts, Air & Space, and Kidstation. Then, as a group we will travel to the famous Irvine Spectrum where you can shop for the holidays. Fee includes admission to the Science Center only. Fee: $25. 

 
  CITY OF ALHAMBRA FLEA MARKET

On Sunday, October 24, from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m., the City of Alhambra will host its bi-annual City of Alhambra Flea Market! The event takes place at the Joslyn Center parking lot (210 N. Chapel Ave.) with sellers and galore and plenty of buyers to support the event.  AFTER-SCHOOL PLAYGROUND SITES

After school youth recreation programs are held at nine school sites.
Activities include team and individual sports and alternative programs.
Alternative programs will include: arts and crafts, table game
tournaments, four square, kickball and new games. In case of rain,
sites may be closed. For more information, please call the Recreation
Services Division office at (626) 570-5081. This is a drop-in activitity. 
Participants are free to come and go without restriction.

** Registration is required for all Family Excursions. Space is limited and is based on a first-come, first-serve basis. A parent or  guardian must accompany children under the age of 18. Refund and Cancellation Policy - tickets are non-refundable. If your schedule changes, you may find a replacement on your own, or if a waiting list has been established, staff will furnish you with a possible replacement from the list. Family Excursions are subject to cancellation or schedule change if trip minimums are not met. If the City of Alhambra cancels a trip, participants will receive a full refund. If you have a physical disability and require special assistance, please notify staff at the time of registration. All excursions include round-trip, deluxe motorcoach transportation. All trips depart from and return to the Alhambra City Yard, 900 S. New Ave., Alhambra.
