Mixed-Use Project Proposed at
Alhambra Place Shopping Center

The J. H. Snyder Company presented a proposal at a recent city council meeting outlining its plans to build a six-story mixed-use residential and commercial complex on the existing Alhambra Place Shopping Center site, which it recently purchased. The property is bounded by Main Street, Garfield Avenue, Bay State Street and Monterey Street.

The property would feature 37% open space and include
informal gathering spaces offering a pedestrian
connection to Main Street, water features integrated
with outdoor cafe seating, a Cultivation Garden with
shaded seating and open lawn area with relaxation
pool, a Formal Water Court with linear reflecting pools, cascading water wall, mountain views, intimate seating and outdoor entertainment space.

The design of the new Alhambra Place project is comprised of 140,000 SF of commercial space, including 100,500 SF of retail space, 21,500 SF of restaurant space and 18,000 SF of bank space. The design also calls for four levels of residential housing (244 units) comprised of 356,730 SF and 1,359 at grade and subterranean parking spaces.

Potential retail establishments include a bookstore, electronics store, apparel store/soft goods retailers, upscale market and restaurants.

The project has passed through the Design
Review Board and Planning Commission,
and also received approval of the City Council.
(The J. H. Snyder Company also recently purchased the Alhambra library site at 411 West Main Street and plans to build a five-story mixed use complex on that property.)
