You just might find yourself in a new dimension in the new Civic Center Library, with 109 computers (a 500% increase), spread out over the various service department within the library.

  Inside the
New Library:

STATE-OF-THE-ART
TECHNOLOGY

It has been a tad over 20 years
since a computer made its first
appearance in the Alhambra
Public Library, and that was an
almost pre-historic PC, donated
by an educational foundation,
and it was not widely accessible
to library users.

The introduction of a computerized catalog, and the installation of state-of-the-art computers for public use, soon followed.

Today, you'll find computerized catalogs located throughout the library, and public-use computers located in the Children's Room, in the Literacy Center, and in the Technology Center. There are, in all, 22 computers available for use by the public (15 adult, 7 for children) to research subjects for school or business projects, consult the library-related websites that provide magazine articles, business and other information, send and receive emails, surf the web, and much more.

In the new library, opening this fall on First Street next door to City Hall, there will be 109 computers (that's a 500% increase), spread out over the various service department within the library. You just might think you've moved into another dimension!

  • The new library will have "mini" Tech Centers located in each service area (the current library has one Technology Center, located adjacent to the adult reference desk);
  • The new library's "mini" Tech Center near the new adult reference service area will be "mini" only in name - it will have a total of 36 computesr, and will be coordinated by a "self" appointment system, with timed periods of computer usage (the current Technology Center has a totoal of 10 computers);
  • The Homework Center's "mini" Tech Center's 20 computers, when not being used by students completing their homework assignments, may be used as an instructional computer lab, with computer training classes sharpening the computer skills of users of all ages.

And for those who want to bring their own laptops into the library, you'll be able to make a "wi-fi" connection not only inside the library, but also on the library's second floor patio.

The new Civic Center Library will be a "state-of-the-art" facility from many points of view, but, technologically speaking, with amazingly broad access to a myriad of information sources that will more than meet your needs. Library staff will be your guide to expanded information, and thus (it is hoped) better grades, a better job, a better life.
