  Inside the New
Alhambra Civic Center Library:

When you enter the Children's Room of the new Civic Center Library, on the library's ground floor, the spaciousness  of the room is going to put you in awe - and the inclusion of special features - will make 410 West Main Street look like a dinosaur of libraries.

Library staff is keeping the special entry-way treatment a secret, but it will truly be something special and worthy of the young minds that will
be entering this wonderland of books and
learning. The comfortable and colorful
furnishings will also entice children and
parents to spend time reading and studying.

The Children's Room will be housed in over
5,500 square feet of space, bigger than some
entire libraries, and significantly larger than the approximate 2,250 square feet available on
Main Street.

More books?

Yes, over 5,000 brand new, hardly-touched-by-human-hands, books to enthrall, entertain and educate our young ones. Many of these books (and other materials, including audiovisual materials) are the result of donations by the Alhambra Public Library Foundation. Incidentally, you can add to the numbers of books on the shelf with a donation to the Foundation - call (626) 570-5079, extension 5602, and make your pledge.

The audiovisual materials will include music CDs, educational and entertainment programming on DVD, and read-along book/CD sets.

More computers? Well, how about 20 (four for toddlers and pre-schoolers, 16 for older children), computers with multi-function capabilities - educational games, Microsoft Word word-processing programs, and internet connection capability. In addition, other computers, containing the Library Catalog, will be on site.

New features include a separate Storytime Room (for weekly storytimes and special children's programs) and two study rooms for group projects, tutoring, and other learning activities.

With the increase in space and facilities, programs for children will be increased and enhanced, including the popular, annual Summer Reading Program.

There will be nooks and crannies to explore, and new books and materials available wherever one turns - a beautiful, colorful, mysterious (you know, that entry way treatment), and fantastic place to connect with the wonderful world of books. It is, in fact, an awe-inspiring, WOW of a Children's Room, worthy of this community and its children.

We can't wait!
