TEEN ADVISORY BOARD OF THE CIVIC CENTER LIBRARY

The Teen Advisory Board meets on the third Wednesday of each month, from September through May at 3:30 p.m. in the Community Room,  and all teens (grades 7 through 12) are invited to attend. TAB provides teens an opportunity to have input on programming and collection development, as well as to help staff better understand teen reading preferences and how the Teen Center should operate. This includes getting teens' suggestions relating to book selection, program implementation, fundraising, book reviews, and more.

Teens wishing to participate in the Teen Advisory Board must fill out an application form, along with their parents, and return the form to the Teen Desk. Participation in the Board provides an excellent opportunity for interested teens to develop a sense of ownership in their library, to be a vital part of planning and program implementation, and, as a bonus, receive library credit for volunteer hours served.

What are some of the specific duties of a Teen Advisory Board Member?

  • Providing input on the development of the Teen collection, suggesting purchases of fiction, non-fiction, manga, and audiovisual materials;
  • Providing input on Teen Center operations including space planning, displays and furniture;
  • Providing input, and assisting with implementation, of teen programming;
  • Assisting with fundraising from ideas to implementation;
  • Reading teen books and providing reviews for guidance of others;
  • Encouraging teen involvement in the library’s services and programs; and
  • Advising Teen Services staff on teen interests and trends.

Questions and/or comments concerning the Teen Advisory Board are welcome – call the Teen Librarian at 626-570-5008, extension 5607; the Teen Library Assistant at (626) 570-5008, extension 5633; or make contact by e-mail – alhambrateens@gmail.com
