All Alhambra residents are eligible to obtain a FREE Prescription Discount Card. Residents who use the card can save an average of 20 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed medications. The card is being offered to all Alhambra residents through the National League of Cities (NLC) in collaboration with member cities (of which Alhambra is a member).
The discount card benefits those persons without health insurance or a traditional benefits plan, as well as prescriptions not covered by insurance. Whether or not an individual has prescription coverage, the Prescription Discount Card can make it easier to purchase medications to deal with a short-term illness or stay healthy by managing a chronic condition. The program is not insurance, and by using this card participants agree to pay the entire prescription cost less any applicable discount. Savings may vary by drug and pharmacy.
The discount card program is administered by CVS Caremark. Residents can download the card from the Internet at www.caremark.com/nlc, and use the website to find the locations of the more than 60,000 participating pharmacies across the nation, including most major retail pharmacy chains such as Walgreens, Wal-Mart and Rite Aid. Those without web access can obtain a card at Alhambra City Hall, Joslyn Adult Center and the Civic Center Library. Residents interested in joining the program are urged to visit the website to access program tools or to call toll-free 1-888-620-1749 for assistance.
The National League of Cities is the oldest and largest national organization devoted to strengthening and promoting cities as centers of opportunity, leadership and governance. NLC is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans.
