The first floor lobby of City Hall provides an ideal location for local artists to exhibit their works. Each month, the lobby features a new exhibition for public viewing, with many pieces offered for purchase.

March 2008

"Brush Strokes," an exhibit of watercolor paintings (considered by many to be the most difficult painting media) by three superb artists who have exhibited at City Hall in the past, will be featured in March in the Art Gallery.

Returning artists are Devorah Friedman, Linda Fullmer and Jeanne Roach. The public is invited to meet the artists, and see their works, at a reception on Monday, March 10, from 6 p.m.-8 p.m.

The collection demonstrates the diversity of style, subject matter, and creative use of the light and color that give watercolors their special appeal, and attests to the talent of the exhibiting artists.

Devorah Friedman studied art history and design at Hunter College in New York City, but the medium of watercolor first captured her attention about ten years ago in a class at Brand Studio. Enchanted by the "delicious moods" one can achieve, she eventually developed a particular interest in portrait and figure work, a daunting challenge, but one she embraces with notable success. She has won several first place awards in local juried exhibitions. In 2006, one of her portraits was included in the Annual Juried Exposition of the prestigious Watercolor West.

Linda Fullmer is a native of Alhambra, and a graduate of Alhambra High School. She obtained her art degree from California State University, Los Angeles, and is known for both her technical and artistic accomplishments. She has studied with nationally recognized artists Joseph Stoddard, Fealing Lin (frequently exhibited at City Hall) and Bob Uecker. She prefers an intense palette to  express her fascination with light and mood. Fullmer's paintings have won awards at Mid-Valley Arts League shows, and several of her watercolors are currently exhibited at Iguana Galleries in Los Gatos, California.

Jeanne Roach was gifted with a love of watercolors in the evening of her life by the late Bob Uecker, while attending his class at Pasadena City College. She continued to develop her talent as a watercolorist under the tutelage of Linda Feidler, Jim Burns, Tom Fong, George Hanft, and currently studies with Fealing Lin. She has painted florals, landscapes, seascapes, and portraits, and has found that each has its own challenges and rewards. Roach's paintings have won awards in juried shows of the San Gabril Fine Arts Association and the Pasadena Society of Artists.

April 2008

"Talent" and "enthusiasm" are the key words in describing the artists whose work will be on display this month at the City Hall Art Gallery, 111 South First Street. The artists are members of Gail Holl's Tri-City Adult Education art classes. You can enjoy their talent by visiting City Hall any weekday during April, and you can share their enthusiasm when you meet them at the "Meet the Artists" reception, on Monday, April 14th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. All are invited to meet, enjoy, and purchase one (or more) of the paintings.
