Bistro 39 offers a delightful lunch
and dinner menu that proves that eating French does not have to cost an arm and a leg.

Bistro 39 was established on the proposition that a well-designed dining room, the freshest "top of the line" food cooked deliciously the French way, the most attentive service, and the most reasonable prices, will bring in (and bring back for more) the hungry patrons of Alhambra and nearby communities. Owner Roy Younan, Manager Emanuelle De Gamot, and Chef Clement Baris would like to extend a friendly invitation to all Alhambrans to "come in and try us."

Appetizers, soups, salads (with the exception of those with additional meat or fish) and crepes are all priced at $10 or less (the "less" including the "escargots de Bourgogne" appetizer at $7, "la soupe du jour" at $6, "la dalade verte du jardin" at $6, and the "crepe jambon fromage," with Swiss cheese, ham, and béchamel sauche, at $7).

A selection of enticing sandwiches -- that is "les sandwiches" is $9 and less, and at the $15 entrée range you'll find pasta dishes, "land" dishes (pork loin, braised lambshank, short ribs) and "sea" dishes (sauteed black tiger shrimp, sautéed fillet of salmon, filet of sole). All main courses, including those not mentioned here, are accompanied by the chef's selection of daily fresh vegetables.

In addition to the regular seafood entrées listed on the menu, Bistro 39 will have a fresh fish of the day every day, leaning in the direction of fresh imported fish, from the French countryside, that you don't normally have the opportunity to taste.

Steaks are also on the menu -- grilled N.Y. steak and grilled prime black angus filet are listed at "market price, and the prize for expense, the bone-in rib eye steak for $30, is also a real bargain, considering that you're talking about a 28 oz. piece of meat!

And how about the kids (always welcome!) -- many of the pasta dishes and "les sandwiches" would probably suit the bill, especially "le hamburger bistro 39."

Wines of every price range are available to your taste, and Bistro 39 celebrates the quality of California wines, often equal-to or better than some French vintages.

And desserts -- you know they're going to be excellent when they start with the words "la crème," as several do. You will also want to sample each of the crepes -- "au sucre," "a la confiture," and "au chocolat," and also enjoy the taste and entertainment of "bananas foster flambee" and "crepes suzette."

You'll enjoy Bistro 39 in a comfortable, relaxed manner -- the décor, featuring photographs of beautiful French scenes, adds to your pleasant dining experience, and since there is no dress code, owner Younan insists that comfortably-dressed diners are more than welcome at any time.
